All Pro Cleaning Experiencing Exceptional Growth
Just three years after following the "American Dream" and purchasing a struggling janitorial business, All Pro Cleaning owner Jill Rasmussen and her staff of 40 is appreciating three-fold growth, both in terms of sales and workforce.
Business Week recently published, "Breaking Away from Corporate America," featuring seven women who left the grind behind to start their own businesses, including Jill Rasmussen and All Pro Cleaning.
Prior to acquiring All Pro Cleaning, Rasmussen developed many professional skills while working as a legal secretary for 15 years, the last 10 of which for Huntsman Corporation.
As Records Manager, Rasmussen reviewed and preserved the historical records of Huntsman Corporation and was able to see how Huntsman started and grew his business. This gave her hope and confidence to tackle running her own business.
Jon M. Huntsman, Sr. praised Jill for growing her woman-owned business so quickly: "I've known Jill and worked with her for 10 years. I'm flattered that Jill was inspired by my story and glad to hear about the rapid growth of her business."
All Pro Cleaning provides janitorial building services, residential carpet steam cleaning, and disaster cleaning and restoration services. Its clients recognize All Pro cleaning's quality service and professionalism.
"I have worked with Jill and All Pro Cleaning for the past three years. All Pro makes sure our building is clean so we can focus on our business," commented Brad Mellor, Property Manager of The Boyer Company.
"Last year, we had some water damage at one of our buildings and All Pro responded immediately and took care of the problem," said David Layton, president of The Layton Companies.
"Jill has strong organizational skills and she's passionate, adventurous and tenacious," commented Elizabeth Whitsett, attorney and former co-worker.
Many women have a dream of working and challenging themselves, but can't seem to manage the struggle of balancing work and family. Rasmussen has 10 tips of advice for other women who have the American dream:
- Be willing to work every job position! Literally, you have to fill in when employees don't show up for work. Also, you have to understand the position in order to make improvements.
- Don't plan on taking a salary for at least three years. The business needs to build up capital for assets and growth.
- Know your competitors and develop your niche. You need to know why you're different or better than your competitors to stand out and make a name for your business.
- Always think ahead. You need to be one step ahead of your competition and know where the future will take your business in your industry.
- Listen to your employees. They are creative individuals with youthful energy, and they can bring fresh ideas from their previous jobs and corporate environments.
- Create a structured environment. By creating an organizational chart, titles and delegating responsibilities, you can eliminate confusion, wasted time, and focus on growing the business instead of working in the business.
- Create systems to teach your employees that includes step-by-step instructions on how to do a job and what to say to a customer.
- Have employee incentive programs. Your people will get bored and leave your company unless you keep them excited about how they can play your game and get rewards and recognition.
- Develop marketing plan. If you don't have a marketing plan for what you're selling, you will waste a lot of time and money.
- Biggest lesson -- NEVER put sales on hold! Business won't continue unless the phone rings and your employees are busy.
