Air Transportation

Good News:  Delta Airlines has just added an transoceanic  flight from Salt Lake City to Paris, France.  The 11-hour non-stop flight took its inaugural flight on June 2, 2008.

The Salt Lake City International Airport, just 10 minutes west of downtown Salt Lake City, is the nation's 22nd busiest and 54th busiest in the world in terms of passenger numbers. Air carrier service connects Salt Lake City with non-stop service to 45 largest markets. There are over 800 scheduled daily flights from the facility serving more than 100 cities with non-stop flights. The Salt Lake International Airport consistently ranks among the leader for on-time operations. For period ending June 2007, nearly 22 million passengers were served by the following major air carriers operating from the Salt Lake City International Airport:

In 2006, Delta Air Lines expanded its service to include 100 non-stop destinations out of the Salt Lake City International Airport. New destinations in 2006 included Long Beach, California; Bellingham, Washington; Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and Mazatlan, Mexico.  Two other new destinations to Victoria, British Columbia and Aspen/Snowmass will operate on a seasonal basis.  Salt Lake City is the third largest hub for Delta Air Lines.

Unlike other metropolitan airports, Salt Lake City International Airport has acquired adequate property for future expansion of the facility. A number of construction projects including a new DHL air cargo terminal and long-term parking lots are now complete.  Other projects are still underway and will insure the future quality of air service in Salt Lake City without the problems and delays associated with congestion and overcrowding.
