Develop a Strategy for Dealing with your Electronic Data

Consider this fact:
In a typical small or medium size business, the amount of electronic data stored doubles every year!

That's particularly overwhelming if your business doesn't have a positive, reliable, and sound plan for a storage strategy. Disaster recovery needs multiply, as rich media files abound, and as accountability requirements, and regulations for electronic communications - based on federal guidelines - get ever more stringent.

Do you know how long you need to keep your Email?  Do your employees know?  Do your employees know which files they need to back-up and store consistently.  A recent survey among companies who had backup, archiving, and recovery plans in place showed that more than half their employees did not really know what the company had identified as “critical data.”  Failure to comply with these new and ever-changing government regulations can result in quantifiable penalties no matter how small the company.
What you need to do.

Identify critical data Identify your critical data
Develop backup strategy Develop a backup and recovery plan for all critical data
Set up storage system for electronic data Set-up a storage/archiving/retrieval system for email
develop policy for electronic data storage Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines for both data storage and email
Develop training for employees Develop rigorous and ongoing training for all company policies and procedures for both management and employees
