Online Registration Available for Non-Profits & LLC's

In a new step, the state of Utah is offering online business registration for nonprofit groups and limited liability companies.   The program, called OneStop Business Registration, is supported by several state agencies and city governments.  It's an extension of a program that previously was available only to other kinds of generally larger business organizations.

By clicking on www.business.utah.gov/registration, nonprofits and LLCs can register with the Utah State Tax Commission, the Utah Labor Commission, the Utah Department of Commerce, the Utah Department of Workforce Services and the Utah Department of Environmental Quality.     The program also is supported by the city governments of Salt Lake City, Sandy, Provo and Logan.

Information entered into the web site automatically is steered to the right agencies, said Francine Giani, executive director of the Commerce Department.   After registering online, nonprofits and LLCs will receive all necessary licenses to do business in Utah.

"It's such a great thing. Instead of waiting in line, people can go online in the privacy of their own home and take care of business," Giani said Thursday.

The program was established in 2003. Until now, it was available only to for-profit corporations, sole proprietorships, limited liability partnerships and general partnerships.
