Ski Salt Lake County

Salt Lake County offers some of the best skiing in the world. The low humidity and low mountain temperatures result in the dry powder snow for which Utah has become famous. Utah's heavy snowfall (up to 500 inches at some resorts) extends the Utah ski season from mid-November through the first of May.

Four major ski resorts are located a short 30-minute drive from the Salt Lake International Airport. You can easily fly into Salt Lake in the morning and be skiing on the "greatest snow on earth" within an hour.

The 2007-08 ski season brought more than $1 billion into the Utah economy.  The number of skiers and snowboarders numbered over 4.2 million, a 4.3 percent increase over the last season.

Salt Lake's premiere ski resorts include:

  • Alta, located in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
  • Snowbird, located in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
  • Brighton, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
  • Solitude, located in Big Cottonwood Canyon.
