The cost of living index in Salt Lake County compares favorably with the region and the nation. It is still below the national level for all items in 2009. Declines in the price of housing offset price gains in transportation, groceries and misc. categories.
The Salt Lake Board of Realtors reported the median selling price of homes and condos in the Salt Lake area was $243,700, which is about 8 percent below the peak recorded in June 2007. Rental rates for a studio apartment averaged $521 per month, while a two-bedroom apartment averaged $825 per month mid-year 2007.
